This guy is actually friends with my neighbor and makes a lot of money dressed up as a clown and other variously odd characters. You should see his house, he has a media room with an egyptian theme and they have actually sculpted a sphinx that lifts up to reveal a hidden door to his office. Very cool and very strange. |

daisysplaying with close up filters and holga. this was taken at the blackwood nature institute in Hempstead Tx, about an hour outside of Houston. They do a summer camp for kids aged 8-18 which is fabulous. They also grow some really nice organic veggies. |
next big thingPlaying in the weeds at Hermann Park. Recently have been overcome by the need to use actual film. It just feels so organic. No, not in the environmentally friendly way, but as in the natural order of things. With a film image i don't feel the need to tweak and spin it in PS until it is absolutely perfect, because it just *IS* . As in, it is what it is, or i think therefore i am, kind of is... I dunno. I know this is just me, but I have taken sort of a year of film abstinence and i missed it terribly. makes me remember why i fall in love with photography again and again. |

Dancing with the moonI took this on world toy camera day ( that's right, in OCTOBER!!!) and I am just getting to scanning the negatives! Oh well. Here is a little taster. This is actually the only one from this camera that came out. I had the roll taped in there for probably over a year.... The camera itself was one of those rare finds that everyone else seems to get but never me... I was shopping in Uncommon Objects, a store on South Congress in Austin, and I came upon it for just $12 I think. Pretty awesome deal. The shutter is kind of sticky and tricky, but I may have to play with it more. |

Reaching for a starI took this one last year, but I am sort of gathering together the elements of a project and seeing where it needs to go. I joined another "class" at Glassell today so I will print most of these in a darkroom and see where that takes me. I say "class" because i am really doing independent study. I suspect I will not be able to tone them this lovely navy blue, but I will see what comes out. I may like it even better....anyways, enjoy :) |
Guardian AngelI don't have any new photos to post today as my computer, negs and hard drive are all packed away with me in Austin, waiting out the storm. I hope my little home in Houston has a guardian angel watching it because starting over is a pain in the butt. I grew up near Galveston, just on the other side of the Causeway, in a little town called Bayou Vista. My dad was mayor for a lot of my childhood, and I remember having to pack up all of the valuables. Put everything else to higher ground, board up the windows...yay when my sister married the heir to a storm blind company and then all we had to do was roll the blinds up!....and then wait it out at one of my sisters' houses in Houston. The only time it was bad was during Alicia in 1983. We got about 8 foot of water in our house that time and I had to stay at my sisters house for a week. She did not have electricity for a few days and I remember they had a gas generator which had two plugs. One for the TV. One for the fan. I remember it being pitch black outside and they made us watch the Exorcist. I hate horror movies. When I did get back home there was debris EVERYWHERE. Heck there was still debris around six months later.... |

the great hula hoop experiment- part 1Playing with some film :) I developed this myself in the darkroom this afternoon but I took it a few months ago. I also have some color film hanging around in my bag awaiting my attention....I took it by HPI a few days ago and they wanted almost $13 per roll to PROCESS ONLY! I am going to take it to AZ and see if they are more reasonable. I think I can comfortably say that I may no longer be shooting color film, unless it is for something very special.... $13 a roll for 120 film??? ach.... |

hungry hungry goatsshe could not get away from them, she was cornered by pigmy goats. There was also a big fat pig in there that the baby goats like to lay on top of. I could not get the film in the camera fast enough to get that. Sometimes digital really does have it advantages :) |
